The Spanish woman secured her championship in the last round of the Austin GP and makes history at the F1 Academy
After a season with great victories and disputes, the Spanish Marta García secured her championship in the first race of the Austin GP, on Saturday (21).
Emotional, the driver spoke to the official F1 media "I'm so emotional that I cried in the car. Very happy to win the championship, with the team, Prema, and all the hard work we've done throughout the season" she celebrated.
The young woman had a season of consistency and great results, and the decision for her title was no different: she started from pole and led the race from start to finish.
Before the first start in Austin, García was already leading the championship with a 48-point lead over second-placed Lena Buhler.
Despite the advantage, Swiss Buhler still had a chance to be champion. If the driver secures all the points in the stage, she can secure 67 points.
But for that, Marta would have to have 3 bad races and 2 bad qualifications too, which hasn't happened since the first qualification.

During the 30 minutes of the race the competition was fierce, in the first laps Abbi Pulling, who started from second position, did not make life easy for the Spanish driver, Pulling tried to overtake her several times and stayed close, but in the end she was unable to take the lead of the race.
Furthermore, on the third lap, after an accident between Maite Cáceres, Chloe Grant and Emily de Heus, the safety car was activated. With that, Pulling managed to get closer again, but on the restart García defended himself well and maintained his victory.
According to the category's rules, García will not be able to compete in the next season of the F1 Academy, as it is a base category that does not allow the champion to compete in a new season.
Despite this, F1 Academy announced that it will sponsor the driver's career in FRECA (Formula European Regional Alpine Championship), where the champion will race for PREMA.
An important step for García to take his talent to higher category tracks.
